Structured Data

Structured data is machine-readable markup, usually JSON-LD, that states explicitly what a page is about.

Technical explanation

Valid markup helps engines resolve entities and extract facts, but it is an aid to understanding rather than a ranking lever. Invalid or contradictory markup does more harm than none at all.

Example

An Organization block with a consistent @id, plus BreadcrumbList on deep pages, is usually enough for a service business.

How it differs

Schema does not guarantee a citation; it only removes ambiguity.
